The association was registered as Persatuan Pendidikan Khas Kebangsaan (National Association of Special Education Malaysia) on December 24, 2009.  It is now popularly known as NASE, a non-profit organization which aspires to work with similar organizations locally and globally for the purpose of sharing knowledge, technology, projects, and activities concerning the well-being and development of children and youth with special needs.
