Greetings and best regards to everyone.
As an introduction, concerned educators, parents, and individuals decided to form an association for promoting the welfare and education of individuals with special needs in Malaysia, and hence we together launched such an association and had it registered as the Persatuan Pendidikan Khas Kebangsaan (National Association of Special Education Malaysia) on December 24, 2009. The association is now popularly known as NASE, a non-profit organization which aspires to work with similar organizations locally and globally for the purpose of sharing knowledge, technology, projects, and activities concerning the well-being and development of children and youth with special needs. This is the altruistic mission of NASE, and we sincerely hope that this mission will be perpetuated continuously in the future by our concerned members and activists.
We firmly believe equal access to every opportunity for all, including individuals with special needs. There is much to be done and, therefore, we continuously seek partnerships and collaborations with government and private agencies to help us leverage the constraints and challenges that lie ahead in the area of special needs. More and more research has revealed new kinds of disabilities related to cognitive and emotive capacities, and correspondingly new innovations and methodologies have been devised to assist the development of individuals with special needs. In this regard, from time to time, NASE organizes conferences, workshops, dissemination of published materials, and social events.
Last, but not the least, I would like to welcome all parties, including our new members, to participate in the activities of our association. It is your dedication, commitment, energy, leadership, and integrity that will drive the association ahead. I, on behalf of the committee members of the association, am most appreciative of the vital role that you and others will play in fulfilling the association’s noble aims. We must believe that we all can make a difference to the lives and development of our special children and youth in a good society. Denial or apathy of special needs issues does not bring any good, in fact it is shameful.
We proudly say “WE ARE SPECIAL”—as imprinted on t-shirts, buttons, and key chains for our association’s austerity campaigns.
